Teresa Wells MRSS
Inspired by a moral upbringing, I possess an ethical consciousness along with a fascination for the question, “How do Humans Behave?”
Through the medium of sculpture I explore the tenuous relationship between man and his society. Isolation, miscommunication, fragility and strength are most attractive.
There is a need for me to express this in ways that invite participation. Employing an illustrative and baroque style in the creation of the human form, I offset emotional and theatrical posturing against strong geometric steel shapes, to illustrate strength over adversity and the fragile state of mankind.
I obtained a first class honors degree in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University, 1996, and undertook postgraduate studies at Loughborough University, where my tutors included John Atkin FRBS and Dan Archer FRBS.
I have worked on large-scale sculptures 4 meters high and at a more intimate scale 30 cm in mixed media. Inspiration comes from the dynamic movements and resulting shapes produced by the human body particularly from athletes and dancers. However the ingenuity of man to devise and construct support mechanisms taking reference from architecture and the strong lines of Phillip King’s work in steel are key factors when designing new pieces.
A multi award-winning sculptor I work to commission and sell work through various gallery platforms in the UK, The Netherlands and USA. More recently I was commissioned by BBC1 and Netflix to produce a sculpture for the highly acclaimed drama entitled ‘Dracula’. Clients include the BBC, Netflix, ‘The Robert T. Webb Sculpture Park’, (permanent collection), Georgia, USA, international art dealers, AK designs, Best and Lloyd Lighting Design Ltd. and various private clients.

"Teresa Wells' art recognizes that when we're alone and unsure of ourselves, that's when our true humanity comes through. It's our wholes selves that make us beautiful - complete with frailties, emotions and imperfections. We don't survive in spite of our flaws, but because of them. Her work captures this duality of the inner and outer self that exists in all of us.
