Roy Best
Roy Best is a visual artist from Manchester who graduated in Fine Art at Newcastle in the 1970’s before briefly teaching art in Leeds and working as a freelance illustrator. Circumstances led to him completely abandoning the creative life and he has only recently returned to Leeds and resumed his art practice after a 40 year hiatus.
Roy is now busily refreshing long dormant skills and working to find his artistic voice. Intensive life drawing practice and urban sketching have been key elements of this over the past twelve months. His work is mostly figurative and firmly rooted in drawing. His themes include explorations of the human form and aspects of the urban landscape combined with an imaginative approach to finding the extraordinary in the mundane.
He is also involved in a number of collaborative projects with other creatives and has begun to exhibit his work locally including recent shows in Leeds, Otley and Halifax. He is a member of the Collective at Armley and an associate member of Aire Place Studio.
