Roy was delighted to be presented with the coveted first prize in the Win It! art awards, courtesy of Aire Place Studios at recent the opening of the awards exhibition at the Aire Place Studios Gallery.
His winning entry, a portrait of Leeds artist Sand Croft, is one of a series of large drawings of artists and models all occupying the same chair by a number of local creatives who have been taking turns to be artist and sitter. The collaborative project envisages eventually exhibiting the portraits in pairs, suggesting dialogues between the sitters.
Roy’s piece is a large ink drawing with coloured pencil and blended graphite on paper.
