Title: Yorkshire Landscape – ‘A Welcome Shade’

Cherry blossom tree painting. An original oil pastel painting of a cherry blossom tree with sheep sheltering from the sun underneath in a Yorkshire landscape.

TITLE “A Welcome Shade”, Yorkshire Landscape.

MEDIUM An original oil pastel painting

This artwork was born out of two local views we found during lockdown and a nostalgic look into the past.

In our village on the side of the road is this magnificent blossom tree. I took photographs of the tree in full bloom as we did our local walk during lockdown. It was stunning. I love the shape of this tree too, wind swept and wild.

We discovered a few local bike rides too. One of these took us past a field of sheep. It was a lovely hot (very hot) spring day. The sheep still had their winter coats on, so they were taking shelter in the shade of a tree.

I exchanged the blossom tree for the one in the sheep field and added four sheep beneath the tree. The four sheep were added as a little nostalgic nod to my four pet sheep I had as
a child.
