Hi – I am Janine Jacques a felt artist living in Yorkshire, UK.
I create felt art that captures the beauty and magic of nature, the feeling of space, freedom and truly being alive in a vast landscape.
My felt artwork brings nature into your home and helps you relive cherished memories of precious times through my colourful landscape paintings.
Using photos and my memories of the landscapes I have visited I create a mood board of photos to work from. I recall the sounds, smells, colours, mood of the sky to create a unique piece of felt art.
Drawing on my degree in Fine Art, I create a charcoal sketch first, then a colourful oil pastel painting of the scene. I then use both of these to create the felt art using the wet felting method, then I needle felt into the artwork and finish with hand sewn embroidery.
Using wool brings a feeling of warmth, softness and comfort to the felt landscape art. Often described as a ‘wool painting’ or ‘painting with wool’. I also incorporate other materials to add beautiful expressive textures to the felt art.
The final felt art pieces are not simply a recording of the scene. Each landscape incorporates painterly mark-making and is a celebration of the materials used as well as as the uniqueness of the scene and beauty of nature.
My pieces have evolved and changed over the years. As my felt landscapes are no longer made purely from wool as I often include other materials and fibres along with the wool I could be described as either a felt artist or fibre artist.
I now work from home in Yorkshire, within easy reach of the beautiful, inspiring countryside.
