Title: Stackpole Rock
I’m pushing my art to be more contemporary, and with my watercolours, to simplify and focus on the big shapes and textures. Green can be a big distraction, because our eyes are so sensitive to it. So I have been working recently on finding ways to leave out the green and either replace it with another colour or to not paint it at all! I originally painted this view in my sketchbook on location at Stackpole Head, and was so pleased with the result that I did this studio version when I returned home. I’m really pleased with the result and now have ambitions to do some similar pictures of the Yorkshire coast.
It’s painted using professional quality watercolour, with graphite & charcoal on Saunders Waterford 140lbs paper. The picture is mounted on Daler Studland mountboard and comes encased in a cellophane wrapper. I post all my works in stiffened envelopes. The size given is for the artwork only; add another 12 cm to the height and width for when mounted.
