Title: Marine Parade, Whitby

In between St Ann’s Staith, to the south and Pier Road at the north is Marine Parade, a collection of buildings from the mid 18th century to the early 19th century on Whitby’s west side that used to be known locally as Coffee House End.

I chose to paint this scene because I found the architectural characteristics of each building appealing. Whilst also finding how attractive the way the buildings and roofs behind receded into the distance the further back they went up the west cliff. I added my partner Jo(anne) and myself into the scene, we are stood at the railings outside of Marine Hotel and again, our Cat Oscar has made an appearance, he is sat next to Joannes feet watching the pleasure boats go by.
