Title: Summer Rose

I am currently working on a series of paintings, oil and watercolour, depicting Cobles and the fisherfolk who work them. I am using a variety of source images from my own sketches and photographs, and where some of the boats no longer exist from found images. This is mainly for myself, and my interest in these boats which I have had from childhood. I caught my first ever fish from a Coble rowed slowly around Scarborough harbour by an grumpy and extremely old fisherman. He moved very quickly though, when I tried to grab my catch from the line, as it was a weaver fish. I have no doubt that he saved me a deal of pain!
Lots of family Holidays in Seahouses always meant a visit to the boat building shed which used to be just to the side of the lifeboat station. A visit to Fishermen’s (Zetland) Square Redcar was always a must see visit when my daughter lived there.
