Title: Seven Children and a Dad Crabbing at Runswick Bay
I sat with my daughter who is also an art teacher and watched this tableaux of youngsters scrambling amongst the rocks and rock pools. We make sketches as their numbers grew throughout the day. They were called for lunch several times but they were too far too distracted, and finally a dad was sent to round them up. This ploy failed completely as he became interested in the game and joined them.
For centuries children have explored rock pools, but what was remarkable in this day and age was they were having fantastic fun without mobile phones and iPads. This is one of a number of paintings I made on this subject.
