I am not sure that these two vessels ever met but they both worked on the Mersey during the same time period. My grandfather was a Shetlander and like many of his contemporaries worked for Ben Line. I remember as a children my whole family having Christmas dinner with him on the Ben Alder as it was moored in Hull. My cousin and I were on the deck trying to pull up the anchor (each link was bigger than we were) when an officer appeared and politely asked us to be careful as we might drift out to sea and get shipwrecked on the rocks!
