Corrin Laws Art

I am a painter and print-maker based in the North East of England. My inspiration is often found close to my home at Newsham, a small settlement overlooking the river Tees. I create paintings and prints, which reflect my observations and experience of living in a rural farming landscape. My art features familiar landmarks such as brick and steel-clad barns, now red with rust. Trees, aging hedgerows and the river’s gentle meandering banks.

I predominantly work in oil paint on canvas or board. I enjoy painting both outside and in the studio. Relief block printing and monoprint are relatively new elements in my practice, creating a print offers me a different way of looking at my subject and often feeds into the painting process.

I use a natural earth palette to reflect seasonal colour shifts and favour a loose impressionistic style with layering of translucent colour to suggest atmosphere.

Visual arts have always been an important part of my personal well-being. I am passionate about the future of our countryside. I hope that my paintings can offer  an opportunity to connect with the positive power of landscape and share an appreciation of nature.
