Hanging Wood lane leads to the reservoir at Thruscross in the beautiful Washburn Valley, Yorkshire. The hillside to the left was heavily planted with conifers for commercial forestry. They were removed a year ago and left this pair of silver birches.
Their shape was eye-catching as they had grown up in the shade of the light-hungry conifers and so their branches had stretched away and into the light over the lane.
