This view is from the nature reserve at Fairburn Ings. Once home to the largest slag heap in Europe (what a boast!) it has been transformed into a thriving and beautiful place by the RSPB. This area of the reserve is home to burgeoning silver birch and alder, thriving in the damp conditions. It is beautifully still as the sun rises in winter with just the thin noise of the robin’s song to break the silence.
