Number one in a series of six pencil drawings, depicting tree roots. I was interested in the strained shapes and dramatic composition of the exposed tree roots protruding from the dry, receding soil on the hillside. I used pencil to focus on the twisted lines and shapes, and to enhance the living, searching nature of the roots.
The original drawing was exhibited with The Society of Graphic Fine Art, ‘Draw 18’, The Menier Gallery, 2018; and ‘The Great North Art Show’, Ripon Cathedral, 2019.
