Title: Study – Headlights Over Flasby Top

Flasby Top is on the Road between Gargrave and Hetton, just before the turning into the village of Flasby in the Yorkshire Dales.
This place is on one of my regular dog walks and I often pass here in the evening. I am struck by the dramatic effect of the lights on the cottage at the side of the road. Serendipitously when I took a photograph as part of the basis for my study, the scene was suddenly and unexpectedly illuminated by the headlights of an oncoming car on the other side of the hill, lending a slightly disturbed and eerie feeling to the scene.
This picture is a study in acrylic inks, for a larger painting. It looks at light effects of car headlights on the trees and landscape.
