Title: “Into the Light”

The second of my lockdown paintings, “Into the light” depicts the road into the Yorkshire Dales village where I was brought up and to which I returned just before lockdown.
On this route into the village, the road descends between the trees creating a beautiful green shady tunnel. As the road takes its final bend, the start of the village is revealed in bright sunlight beyond the trees.
The contrast between the dark shaded trees in the foreground with the bright high summer light in the mid-ground shining through and the slightly hazy quality of the background combine to create the tranquil and slightly surreal feeling in this scene.
