Steve Thompson

I work from my garden studio at home in Stainburn on tbe outskirts of Harrogate.
I am inspired by landscapes,the sea, weather, textures ,music and textiles.
I tend not to work out detailed ideas beforehand by doing sketches.Whilst I will have a general composition in mind, I prefer to just start and see what evolves.Mostly I just let it happen often not knowing what they mean until I have painted them.This allows room for happy accidents to occur.
It’s the process of getting lost in the work that I love.
My favourite quote is by American artist ,Richard Diebenkorn which describes my approach
I can’t paint what I want,only what I would have wanted had I thought about it beforehand .
