Frances is a printmaker, illustrator, and general enthusiast of all things mysterious, moss-covered, and myth-soaked. Working mainly in linocut, her work is deeply inspired by folklore, poetry, tangled forests, and half-forgotten tales, the kind whispered around fires or tucked into the footnotes of old books. Nature grounds her, stories guide her, and she has a lifelong fondness for the elegant drama of Art Nouveau and the inky brilliance of artists like Aubrey Beardsley.
In 2016, she completed the rollercoaster ride that is a Masters in Creative Practice, an experience that both challenged and deepened her fascination with the interplay between image and narrative.
With a proclivity for wandering, Frances currently works from her studio in the old market town of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, where she spends her days carving lino, sketching forest creatures, and occasionally arguing with uninspiring teabags. Alongside her own creative practice, she teaches Art & Design at York College, helping students explore their own creative chaos.
Her work invites the viewer to pause, look closer, and maybe, just maybe, hear the secret story between the lines.
