I should have been a philosopher or a brain surgeon but here I am trying to make it in the world of the visual arts ! I live in lovely Richmond North Yorkshire and I would call myself an all round ‘creative’… I love art, music, theatre, and any discipline which allows for experimentation and freedom of expression!
I completed an illustration degree later in life and since this have worked on a number of commissioned children’s books and am currently completing two of my own.
I love to draw and paint. I enjoy detailed realistic drawing sometimes and particularly like to work on digital pictures of birds and animals. At other times I am compelled to paint larger pictures and tend to work in a more abstract way using inks and printing to create a background picture which I work over in oils then remove some of the top layer to reveal what is underneath.
As an Ambassador for Derwent Pencils I have been lucky enough to attend a lot of art fairs and demonstrations. This has led me to develop a creative teaching role in which I can support other artists and encourage and motivate others to start painting.
My other great passion is for the study of the mind and philosophy. I like to explore this in my work and in 2012 I started a daily ‘Gratitude Diary Sketchblog’ which I still keep going through my website. I have worked as a therapist in mental health and substance misuse services for the past twenty years and I am committed to the belief that creativity is a form of therapy. It certainly is for me.
I hope you enjoy my work. You will see a lot of different styles. As a trained illustrator I tend to use whatever style is necessary for the commissioned work involved but …… I am most happy when I am experimenting with mark making and working on larger canvases.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like more information about my work.
