I am a contemporary artist based in Harrogate. I have a BA(Hons) in Design and was a teacher for 25 years. Since leaving teaching I have focused on my own art practice and I have recently gained a Masters degree in Creative Practice.

I take my inspiration from the open spaces and big skies of Yorkshire and the North East Coast. I find the world around us endlessly fascinating, exciting, calming, uplifting and occasionally slightly unnerving. Both outside in the landscape and in the studio I experiment with spontaneous expressive, gestural mark-making. I attempt to capture an emotion, a feeling of movement and atmosphere and to create richness, depth and texture by building up layers of colour. Although my paintings are semi-abstract in nature, I endeavour to retain a sense of place and the human connection to it.

I work with a range of media including oils, acrylics, inks and charcoal and have recently been experimenting with silk screen mono printing.
