I am Alison Ivanec, and I love colour. My art is a celebration of the colours of nature , and I always try to  reflect the colours of nature in my paintings. My work is not literal or photographic , I am more interested in trying to express emotion and the natural rhythm of the seasons. I don’t plan what I paint, except that I do always start by throwing, pouring , dripping paint left over from a day’s painting , on a large piece of thick watercolour paper or a canvas.

It’s all quite random, and I then have to see what the paint, once dried, suggests. I have often looked at this and thought what can I do with that, but I find it always works out. Sometimes it’s the way light and shadow hits the paper that suggests the way forward.

Music and poetry often influences the painting, and there are always people, trees, flowers and animals. If I see some animal or bird while I am painting in the days around a painting, I put them in the painting, but I don’t see everything I paint, there aren’t any lions or tigers at the bottom of the garden.

I love mythology particularly Greek and Latin, and I often think of the Metamorphoses by Ovid.  I wish to bring hope, joy, love and togetherness through my Art and to bring sunshine and a smile.

I love acrylics ; paints and inks, I tend to paint with them watered ;although I do sometimes paint more thickly with a palette knife. I also use watercolour pencils and acrylic ink pens.

I love painting it brings me such joy I hope some of this transmits to those who see my Art.
