What's on

Navigators Art & Performance collective in York are thrilled to invite you to our forthcoming events for the 2023 York Festival of Ideas.
We have interpreted this year’s Festival theme ‘Rediscover, Reimagine, Rebuild’ in a range of creative ways.
  • Our visual exhibition HIDDEN TREASURES is on show throughout the Festival and can be seen now at York Explore Library & Archives during daily opening hours.
Five artists have been inspired by local streets and sights (though not the obvious ones!) as well as by works in York Art Gallery and elsewhere. Featuring paintings, collage, photography, textiles and constructions.
Free entry. Wheelchair access.
  • LIVING TREASURES is an exciting live performance evening at The Basement, City Screen, on Saturday 10 June at 7.30 pm.
Upcoming and established bands, singers and poets have created new work for the show that casts fresh light on York past and present.

Expect a kaleidoscope of material from extraordinary singer-songwriters, spellbinding spoken word performers, local alt-folk legends White Sail, and fantastic new band The Corsairs reinterpreting… the Clangers?? And more!

The show promises to be entertaining and original – and full of new discoveries.

Some material may not be suitable for young children.
Wheelchair access.
  • Finally, we present THERE’S ANOTHER COUNTRY, a new feature film by Brighton director Martin Nichols showing at City Screen Picturehouse on Sunday 11 June at 11.00 am. (Cert: 15)
A personal and political exploration of familial and social breakdown, the film weaves our present-day experience of post-pandemic and post-Brexit Britain with an older generation’s wartime sacrifice and the formative experiences of a young adult in the 70s and 80s.
Shot entirely on Super 8 to replicate the visual look of the post-war consensus, the film’s premiere sold out and BBC Radio’s Melita Dennett called it “Fantastic… important and highly original”.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the director.
Wheelchair access.
