John Roberts (Wellie)

John Roberts was born in 1967 Bolton on Dearne, near Sheffield, South Yorkshire and raised in Keighley, a former West Yorkshire mill town. Not allowed to pursue a further education, afterschool he mulled around various jobs until starting as a mechanical & electrical draughtsman and making a career in engineering.

From 1984 to 2010 he developed his art in secret and not many if any of these earlier works remain.

2010 and after a serious back injury he started to show his works to all, started to use a pseudonym and signed all his works Wellie. Wellie was taken from the names of his two youngest children William & Ellie.

He employs a wide range of techniques to create a diverse body of works from abstract to portraiture.
