Title: Untitled
Kathe Kollwitz is renowned for her work usual charcoal. The work of Kathe Kollwitz presents a harrowing and sorrowful atmosphere with her monochromatic range and lack of expression. She is very focal towards the shadows on her pieces and how it engulfs any figure portrayed.
Here, I used charcoal and an eraser to render a figure. I am specifically drawn to the detail in the hands, in which I used an eraser to mark the details.
I’m also impressed with the composition of the piece, being very vertical and how the page cuts off the arm it gives the impression of imperfectness and that there’s a continuation to the image.
