Title: Orange Flowers in a Straight Vase

Orange Flowers in a Straight Vase is one of a growing number of works in my Pastel Flowers series. They are all available as prints and cards.

About the Pastel Flowers series: I create these pastel paintings with soft pastels on coloured and textured pastel paper, purposely leaving the texture and colour of the paper to show through in parts and gain importance in the picture as a whole, which adds an extra layer of visual interest. Additionally, as I apply the pastels in different ways within the artwork, this results in more variation, from smudgy blends in some areas to sketchy lines layered together or bold criss-crossing lines in others. As always, for me, it’s all about using the medium in the most expressive ways I can, both to satisfy myself as an artist and to give the viewer’s eyes renewed interest each time they see the work.
