Rachael Dixey
Rachael Dixey recently presented a solo exhibition at The Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh, showcasing a substantial body of work created during her two year artist residency at @cyrenians charity community farm in West Lothian.
Working from her home studio between Otley and Harrogate, Rachael paints and draws using acrylic, pastel, inks, graphite and digital media. The artist residency on the farm became a major focus of her practice and the exhibition brought together large scale graphite drawings, colourful paintings and digital works, all responding to the people, places and stories that make the farm unique.
Reflecting on the experience, Rachael writes:
“The farm became my happy place, giving companionship whilst working hard on a collective pursuit, wonderful young people to be around and take an interest in, greenery and developing gardening skills. It gave structure to my development as an artist: a purpose, a project, material to work with.”
