Karen Abbott-Capps

As a retired music teacher, my creative journey has naturally evolved from the world of sound to the world of colour and texture. Today I work primarily in watercolours, seeking to capture an atmospheric, evocative mood rather than a rigid reality.

My painting style is deeply intuitive, loose and process led. Heavily influenced by the vibrant, fluid techniques of Jean Haines and guidance from Susan Gardener, I love to collaborate with my medium itself rather than forcing a strict vision onto the paper. I allow the paint to build it’s own magic and organic texture. Every piece is a discovery as the scene slowly unveils itself before me on the easel.

Because I am guided by atmosphere and light my goal is to invite the viewer into a peaceful, expressive moment.
