Art has always been a part of my life, it was something I was good at as a kid, in fact it was the only thing I was good at. I did know that I wanted my job in life to have a creative element to it.
It was about 2 years ago, now that the kids are ready for moving out that I felt the need to get back in touch with my painting and drawing skills. I always think that when you are a creative person you have a creative addiction that needs to be fed. I decided to try my hand at oil paints, I love a challenge and I had never used them before. I did struggle to start with, learning to work in this very adaptable medium, my evening where spent using Google and just practicing.
I have fallen head over heels for it, the vibrancy that you can achieve from oil and also the delicateness, there are so many techniques that I have tried out, and I am still learning. Each new painting, I become more relaxed and learn something new from it.
My subject matter is varied, I enjoy landscapes, usually places I have visited, happy times that I want to capture. Living in Yorkshire you’re never far from a beautiful place that inspires.
I also love the challenge of portrait painting, having 3 kids comes in handy as I ask them to pose for me which they reluctantly do.
I am absolutely loving painting it helps me mentally, and I am hoping that I can leave my job and start to paint full time.
