I began my professional career lecturing in drawing and design.

For over twenty five years I designed for the Yorkshire textile industry, throughout that time I continued to paint and occasionally exhibit my work.

Over the past five years I have developed an intense body of work all of which derives from the North Yorkshire landscape.  All of my images begin with extensive visual research through my sketchbooks , I have to have intimate knowledge of the places that I make visual statements about.

My paintings are a personal, visceral response to the beauty and force of nature from hedgerows, through rockfaces to waterfalls.

There is ,I feel, a distinction between paintings ‘of’, ‘from’ and ‘for’ the landscape : Mine are most definitely ‘for’ the landscape as I believe I am spiritually returning some of the energy I receive back to the Nature which inspires me to create these images.
