Visual artists living in the borough are being invited to create a series of striking new artworks around for Scarborough.

The artworks will be used on new signposting around the town, and to create vinyl wraps or photo boards to enhance the appearance of empty shops in the town centre. This new project, Scenes from Scarborough, is a joint initiative from Scarborough Borough Council and Scarborough Town Centre Team.

Scarborough Town Centre Team member Rach Drew says: “We’re looking for some really creative, engaging visuals that will brighten up our town.

“Colours should reflect Scarborough and its seaside location, and we’re seeking clean, strong images that will lend themselves to different uses. Some will be used just for signposting, some just for the vinyl wraps or photo boards; others might be suitable for both.

“There are so many talented artists living within the boundaries of the borough – we can’t wait to see what they come up with!”

Artists are invited to submit up to three ideas – each commissioned piece will receive £1,000 for time and materials. Twelve commissions are available.

The deadline for applications is noon on Tuesday 15 December, and successful applicants will be informed by Friday 18 December. They will then be asked to submit their finished work by Friday 15 January. All work must be submitted digitally.

The vinyl wraps and photo boards will be mainly in the town centre; the signposting will be in the town centre, North and South Bays, the Old Town, seafront and South Cliff.
