Explore the relief printing process of linocut from the comfort of your own home with the guidance of artist and printmaker Kirstie Williams in this online introductory workshop.
This zoom session is ideal for complete beginners in linocut or those who wish to refresh their previous skills and gain some new inspiration.
You will be guided through the process of carving, inking up and printing your lino block in a step by step way, with opportunities to discuss your designs and ideas as you go along.
A perfect way to be introduced to some simple printing techniques which can be achieved at home without the need for a press!
- Introductions, group discussions, showing linocut examples.
- Demonstrations – how to use tools safely, transferring imagery to the lino, using different gauges to carve lino.
- Students preparing imagery/carving lino. Questions answered as they arise
- Demonstration of rolling out ink, inking block, registering image and printing onto paper using wooden spoon
Your tutor: Kirstie Williams
Kirstie Williams is a local artist and printmaker who works with relief and screen printing techniques in her own work. She is inspired by 1950s surface pattern and uses geometric patterns and bold colours in her work.
