Title: Corus Steel and Fishermen’s Huts

The South Gare Redcar is one of my favourite places to paint. Wildlife, heavy industry, cargo ships, a small fishing vessel harbour, a First World War sea defence and beaches, it has everything that I like to paint on one small finger of land. I love painting the massive geometry of the steel industry and the neat fishermen’s huts. I have done this many times and never get tired of it. Just across the road is the contrast of an old fort, a fabulous mixture of old, new and derelict fishing boats with a backdrop of an inventive and haphazard arrangement of a very individual fisherman’s huts. ‘Paddy’s Hole’ as it is known locally is probably the most visually stimulating place that I have ever visited.
