Painting out on the land in the Yorkshire Dales is my passion!

This is what I express through art using gifts and expertise from a lifetimes painting experience. The energy of water draws me to many beautiful sites of inspiration. I’m moved to paint by the essence of place the limestone scenery of crags & waterfalls found in the Yorkshire Dales. The living rock of Limestone, Millstone Grit, light and weather it’s all here!
On every painting I express my reaction and interpretation of this magnificent land. I feel the Dales are dramatic, beautiful, intriguing and sometimes dark! Which makes me feel light energized and truly alive! It may be the craggy waterfall or a crystal clear river where I tune in to experience the energy to imbue canvasses with vibration of place. Taking in the interplay of rock form with the elements of shape, light & pattern. At times it’s an inner vision based on memory, feeling & emotion of place. Spirit of the Dales!

My painting journey is an expressive “Dance” between Realism & Abstraction. Exciting colour combinations composed with textured layers of paint, collage, and lustre and of course Grit! Each painting is lovingly created using water collected from the waterfalls & rivers on site. Particles of limestone embellish the surface. Look closely to find an ammonite, my nod to the living rock filled with fossils and shells of sea creatures 350 million years old, originally from south of the equator!

I recently returned North to my Yorkshire roots after 10 years in the South West. Yorkshire is a land which runs through my veins, through the core of my being, my cells and DNA. Home! Here a realization, an understanding, a timeless knowing of this place beyond words which is written in the air across the valley, the light on the hill. This land speaks to me in so many ways. Gorgeous!
